I’d really like to make Christmas count this year. So I’m doing my Christmas shopping a little differently.

ONLINE – For all of the years that I’ve had an online business, I’ve never done my Christmas shopping online.

I picked my father in laws name for Christmas, he is an avid golfer so I went online to find something great for golfing instead of the usual (and useless) golf stuff. I found this set of “Birdie Balls” that are great to practice with at home. I’m sure he’s going to really enjoy it. I thought it was such a great idea that I got one for my son who also likes golf and gets bored around the house (when he’s home!) and also a set for my nephews.

Something useful – entertaining and something to get them out of the house – and it took me about 20 minutes while I was having my morning tea.

MAKE IT YOURSELF – Do something a little different and make some natural skincare items for your family. My work at home business is selling ingredients – it’s easy and fun. CRAFT SALES – You can get some amazing bargains and some really unique stuff. It’s fun and a nice chance to see some friends in your local community. Even better than that, you are making a real difference to the ladies and gentlemen who are selling at the craft sales. I know from experience that these people work extremely hard, for some of them, this is their “big thing” for the year and every sale means a lot to them. (I went to one yesterday, got some amazing things at amazing prices, had a great time with my daughter (we made it a date and went out for breakfast first) and felt really good for supporting the local people who work so hard to get it ready)

SCHOOL BAZAAR – Why not support your community schools and get something different? Donations are always welcome as well. I usually donate soap and there is no better feeling than hearing from a mom who got some of my soap for Christmas from her child – and they go like hotcakes. Think tinsel when decorating, the kids love them! Also, consider volunteering to help out, it is a hoot to watch the kids do their Christmas shopping.

GIFT A STRANGER – For years I wanted to do something for people who don’t have much but had no idea what to do. Now there are some great online opportunities to do just that. There is a program called Embrace-a-Family that looks amazing, I will be donating to it and I hope that you can do the same. We also as a family – my inlaws, myself and each of my kids contributed to this one as well – giving to those in need is one of the best feelings that you can give to your kids.

I’ve been contributing to this charity monthly for about 10 years and have really enjoyed it. Right now we have a little girl who is my daughter’s age and even looks a bit like her, so it is really fun.

TIRES – Sounds odd but I have never forgotten a TV special about winter tires and a mother who’s daughter was killed because her car slid backwards off a hill and over a cliff, the consensus was that if she had proper tires it wouldn’t have happened. Do you have kids who drive their own cars? At home or moved out. Driving your grandkids around? Splurge and take their car in for a new set. I know I won’t drive without decent tires anymore. A few close calls with proper tires is bad enough!

ECO SHOPPING

There are countless environmentally friendly choices that you can make this year, the good news is that most of them seem to be healthy choices as well.

But remember when you are shopping to bring a bag or a tote instead of getting overdone with plastic bags this year.

My personal pet peeve is plastic bags. I ask for paper at the grocery store, we are lucky to have the choice. I use the bags to wrap boxes that I ship so they do double duty. If I didn’t, I would either be bringing my own reusable, or I would be getting some of those nifty plastic boxes that many grocery stores sell. Or you can buy some totes especially for that. I love the idea because you can keep them in your van or trunk, they can be useful for a variety of things and to keep your vehicle clean and organized. And you can use the lids to keep your groceries cold and dust free.

KEEP THEM MOVING

Anything to keep your kids active is great.

We where lucky to get a second hand snowboard in kid’s size for my 9 year old daughter. My 16 year old son is an avid snowboarder and amazingly enough, they like to go out on our hill together. So now she will have her own “real snowboard” and she won’t care one bit that it is used. I am happy that she will be out in the fresh air having fun with her brother, getting some great exercise and getting another skill under her belt.

I haven’t personally seen them, but I think that they have video games out now that you use your whole body to do the moves, I think that would be great fun.

TIME

Take your kids out for a fun activity, maybe something you don’t normally do – bowling, cross country skiing, skating are a few fun things that are relatively inexpensive. Have a Blast and make some Christmas memories and traditions.

MOST OF ALL

Take the time to remember the people you love this Christmas, and who love you. Sometimes a phone call is priceless (not to be a bummer, but the person you are calling won’t always be here to answer the phone, do it while you can and make a memory)

3. Amazon Gift Cards. This is probably the best last minute gift to get someone. You can have Amazon email it to the person you are buying it for, which is great. Especially if you are buying a gift on Christmas Eve or if you’re getting someone a gift who lives far away from you.

These are some gifts to get if you are doing some last minute Christmas shopping. If you buy these gifts, the person you are buying them for will love them. And you won’t have to panic or worry about not being able to buy presents for anyone.

In contrast, the Honduran people have struggles to just have the basic needs. They have to be concerned whether their little shack of a home will withstand the next tropical storm, or flash flood. Sanitation isn’t always easy when your floor is dirt. The color or designer of clothing are given no thought. What to have for dinner is a basic need question, rather than “I don’t know what I feel like eating.” Which bottled water to choose isn’t a question. Any clean water is a luxury.

A mission team of ordinary people are going to San Pedro Sula, Honduras,on July 11 – 18, 2009. This group is made up of people of all ages from Kennesaw First Baptist Church, in Kennesaw, Georgia. Why do they want to go? It is the desire to help people. It is the desire to give to the Honduran people the extra help they need to just have a comfortable, healthy life. It is the desire to show them and teach them of God’s love. A general list of things the group will be doing, follows:

• Working with local feeding centers
• Ministering in daycare centers
• Working with our partnering church, Jerusalem Baptist
• Crusades in local schools and at the new church site
• Construction project with Jerusalem Baptist and their daughter church (possible)
• VBS at day care centers and churches (possible)

Will this mission experience be entirely a one way sharing? Absolutely not! We will have some very important life lessons to learn. The Honduran people are known for their happy, friendly disposition. Is this because they have so much? No. They have so little in material blessings. Yet many have discovered the real source of peace and satisfaction in life. They have discovered Jesus Christ.

You may not be able to go to Honduras on a mission trip, but you can support the mission team, and help the Honduran people. In this time of a tough economy, you may be thinking you don’t have any extra to give. We have set up a web site in support of this mission project to explain more about the needs of the Honduran people, and the needs of the mission team to be able to make this trip a reality. The thought process, time and effort that goes into Christmas shopping, well it’s just ridiculous for someone like me. I don’t fancy the idea of trailing round shops in the freezing cold, getting stuck in huge queues behind old biddies buying feather dusters, so I decided that this year I will do all my Christmas shopping… ONLINE!

I began with the big items that I need to buy for people like my kid for example, well he deserves something special because I only get to see him for a few hours a fortnight and I need the presents to be a token, or a sort of gesture to let him know I’m still his Dad. So I proceeded to search the World Wide Web for presents. I looked at various different websites all claiming to have “great prices” or “unbeatable prices”. Now I know what you’re thinking, money shouldn’t be an issue when it’s for my kid, but it’s just the point of paying over the odds to big corporate companies that I cannot stomach. So I started to note down prices on a piece of paper to find the cheapest, but this was very time consuming.

After doing this for an hour or so, I was starting to feel really sick of it and very un-light hearted. But then I came across a website called Plobit, www.plobit.co.uk. ‘Don’t just buy it, Plobit!’ was this site’s motto, it was a price comparison site. Well, Bingo! This was exactly what I needed, so I started typing in the toys, games, items that I was interested in for my kid and to my delight all of the prices from various different stores appeared in front of me, all on one page with all the prices listed and not only that, but there was even a discount codes area where you get for example 10% off in certain stores. This was a god send, I bought all my Christmas shopping through this and saved overall about £600 and as well as that, saved hours of time.

Plobit is the most useful website I’ve ever came across and I really will be using it whenever I need to shop online. Plobit compares prices for anything and I mean anything, ranging from women’s underwear all the way to children’s toys, DVD’s, games consoles, right up to widescreen plasma TV’s.

If you don’t have much time to spare, but at the same time don’t want to be rushed into paying well over the odds for products this Christmas, then look no further than www.plobit.co.uk, it really is a fantastic site for saving money and time.

Well, well, well, it is that time of year again and once again we sigh at the seemingly overwhelming thoughts of the dreaded Christmas shopping. And yet, do we? There is something special about the stereo typical last minute testosterone mall invasion late on the 23rd and early on the 24th. My favorite Christmas shopping was always for her. Hmm, come to think of it, my favorite presents I received were always the ones ‘ for him ‘.

Personally I have lived this, each and every year I can remember, until last year! I was working for a major American company, in Europe, and while I did get to do some last minute shopping, in my traditional manner, most gifts were going to people on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Sigh, 25% sales tax plus shipping, CRAP!!! That was when I first discovered the wonders of internet shopping on a major scale. I made online purchases, delivered to my sister in Montana and she in turn re-mailed them to the various people on my Christmas list after she wrapped the ones that didn’t come wrapped from the stores. First off, I saved a whole bunch on sales tax alone and don’t even get me started on the shipping costs from Denmark!!! I not only saved money, I saved time.

Today, my wife and I are starting a small service company in Phoenix, Arizona and we are pretty busy these days. Our money is not what it was even a month ago, it takes time to develop any business, and Christmas shopping just won’t wait another 2 months.
