Types of File Extensions

As we all know that the main purpose of a computer is to process data, store data and to display the data that has been processed. The data that can be used, stored, processed and displayed by a computer is so varies and has more than hundreds types, so it is impossible for a computer user to memorize all of the files type and the usages. So, to make the computer user easy in memorize all of them or at least to help the user to recognize file types easily, file types extensions are introduced.

There are many file types extensions available, and most of them are named with 3 letters taken from the original name of the file types. For example the extension of docx which is originally named word document especially used by Microsoft Word. Although there are so many extensions but the users don’t need to memorize all of them because usually in a computer, there will be a list of programs that can be used to open certain files.

If the extension docx is used for word document file, the file extension of mdi is used by the Microsoft Document Imaging files. Which is stressed more on the imaging files? Besides that the other different type of file which is emz which is used in most Microsoft’s products.
