What is the average pay rate for a jewelry polisher?I was debating on whether or not to take this job at the jewelry store right down the road from me but I can't find any information about the average pay rate for an entry-level jeweler position as a jewelry polisher. The store I was looking at is a corporate jewelry store, if that means anything. Can anyone help?

You are so right about that…everyone just wants to fit in…and I love your line about the commonality of "soulless bodies following a certain routine." Believe me, I have felt the way you feel about people for a while, and I also have been one of them "trying to fit in." To me it sounds like you Mom is letting her pride get in the way of your relationship. She said she didn't want to wear someone old clothes… Maybe she just doesn't want to admit that she likes them, so she puts them down when you wear them.
When I was younger, I hated my mom shopping at thrift stores. I felt like 'am I not worth new clothes?' and when I was a bit older and had some money, I felt like 'I work hard to get my money, I want something new.'
Now I'm 21 and if I see something cute, I buy it (when I can) new or not. I work hard for my money and I realized that buying used clothes is no big deal.
Maybe in her life, she had to shop in those kinds of stores. Maybe it was made out by family or friends as shameful. So once she was able to buy things new, she never wanted to go back. Now suddenly, she is trying to make you see that you should buy things new too. Some people just can't see how some of us like a bargan and will buy something used instead of spending the extra and buying new.
It really sounds like to me that she can't admit she likes them, so she has to make negitive comments about them. She also just wants the best for you and somehow she has gotten it into her head that shopping second hand isn't the best.
What worried me is that you have the months of all these incidents recorded… You need to sit down and talk to her. Tell her you know there is something deeper then the clothes wrong and you are hurt and concerned.

Perhaps I'm reading to far in to this, but I don't think this is about the cost of the ring. It seems that you're more concerned about his committment, judging on the information that you've shared.
Lets review:
1) He's currently going through a divorce
2) You've been in a relationship for 2 months
3) For those 2 months, he's been working away
4) He impulsively buys you a cheap ring
5) He "seems" really nice?! "Seems"?! (You've agreed to marry someone based on the impression that he "seems" nice. The stranger who stood up for me on the train this morning "seemed" nice, but I'm not going to be accepting a marriage proposal from him!)
I'm not trying to be mean or belittle you at all. Romance is exciting, but you're still in that "giddy" phase of the relationship where character flaws are given the benefit of the doubt.
Another "red flag" in all this is that you felt obligated to accept his proposal due to surprise. You have the right to voice your concerns and to work through them with him! Be careful, sweetie. This is a HUGE commitment. Don't take it lightly!
P.S. Yes, you have the right to like your engagement ring – you're the one who has to wear it! My fiance and I chose mine together. It cost him $599 (also aussie dollars) and was also from Michael Hill, but we'd been to a million stores all across Perth and it was the only one I liked! I'm thrilled to pieces with it!
