Christmas Shopping – Tips and Advice

Christmas Shopping – Tips and Advice

There are not Christmas queues and the weather is dry fine and warm, making your Christmas shopping a more enjoyable experience.

? Leave it until Christmas Eve! The shops are desperate by this time and slash they prices incredibly. It is a bit of mad dash but all the Christmas stress is confined to a single 24 hours.

? Buy online. Quick and convenient, no queuing, no trying to find car parking, no terrible weather. Plus many retailers offer discounts for online orders, which means you save money too!

Many people are worried about security and credit card fraud when buying online. Of course this is a worry, nobody wants to be the victim of credit card fraud. However, there are some steps you can take to keep your online shopping experience as safer transaction as possible.

When buying online, only use reputable retailers. This maybe a high street retailer who have an online shopping facilities or a large online store. Maybe a friend has recommended a particular website that they have purchased goods from in the past. Some online shops state how long they have been trading. If a store has been trading online for a number of years, and is well established, this is a good indicator of a reputable store.

When shopping online you inevitably end up at the ‘check out’. This is the point where the store will ask you for your name, postal address and credit or debit card details. This is the time when credit card fraud is a danger.

To protect yourself look for a padlock icon in the status bar at the bottom of the window on the actual ‘check out’ page, where the website is asking you to submit your details. This padlock mean that this page of the website has a secure connection, so any information that you submit on this page will not be decipherable to anyone else, it will be encrypted. If there is not a padlock, it is not a secure connection despite what the actual web page content may say.

You can still submit your details, However, you do significantly increase the risk of becoming a victim of credit card fraud.

Our advice would be to contact the website and ask them to provide you with a secure payment page, or shop elsewhere.

However you do your Christmas shopping this year, Enjoy your experience and keep your card details safe.

Tell them that you are either getting them the exact same things or totally different items and let them choose. Then tell them whatever they choose there shall be no arguing or complaints or the toys will be donated to someone that will appreciate them:)

  5. 1. Shop online, on sites where free shipping is offered, such as Amazon. Toys R Us offers free shipping on several items.

    2. Set a budget and stick to it. (Allow a little leeway so you don't go completely crazy!)

    3. Make a list and stick to it. If you see something that would be perfect for someone but they're not on your list, forget it!

Compound bows are very adjustable in draw-weight, so don't worry too much about it. As for learning how to use the bow…

There a few forums I can recommend; they are "populated" by some very intelligent, informative people. If you are looking for a book to use, there are also a few of those I can recommend.

First, though, let me say that there is no "One Right Way" to do archery; there may be some small differences in methods, and some methods may be better than others — but what works for one person does not neccesarily work for everyone else. Find what works for YOU, specifically, and stick with it; constantly changing from one method to another is the absolute worst thing you can do. And don't worry about the "low" draw weight of your bow; 55 lbs is pretty much nominal for most archers, yet still fairly high for a beginner (even for a compound user). Since you are using a compound bow, what you really need to consider is the "let-off" — the percentage of draw-weight you will actually be holding when you are at "full draw" (a 55 lb bow with 80% let-off means you will hold only 11 lbs at full draw – but that amount of let-off is rather high). Just relax and enjoy the archery!

Note: Any "hard to find" books, just do a websearch for them. Some are available on-line. If you have any questions, just ask. I will do what I can to provide you with the answer.

For simple, stone temple walls, cut ‘bricks’ from cardboard boxes. A perfect cube has six sides, but a box with flaps on top and bottom has 14! Cut each piece out individually and attack to a wall with the plain side outward. Images can now be drawn for the final touch. This is great for covering a large area with minimal materials.

    Step
2Play a few games of Egyptian Bingo. For a downloadable Egyptian themed Bingo set, click the link below under RESOURCES.

    Step
3Gold coffin (or gold walls, if needed.) Spray paint the box structure with a standard HIGH GLOSS finish gold spray paint (not matte finish.) Using some art history books as guides, draw cartouche images on the sides using a fine tipped, black permanent marker. Now, the marker will not be dark enough atop the gold spray paint…you’ll need to go back over it with some black acrylic paint. Some color was used by the Egyptians, notably white, turquoise and an earthy brick red. Reflect these colors in touch up details on the sides of the coffins.

    Step
4Plan an exciting Egyptian themed treasure hunt! Either create your own or download one from the Internet. See below, under RESOURCES, for an Egyptian themed adventure treasure hunt download.

    Step
5Old research books look great as centerpieces. Go to your local library (college libraries are much better for this) and look for old, antique books, preferably on ancient Egypt. They always have them…and they look great for atmosphere.

    Step
6Visit your local library and photocopy old maps (found in their reference section.) Black and white copies can then be taken to your local print shop/copy center to have blown up to any size you want (3’ x 4’ feet.) When they are blown up that large, they get very ‘grainy,’ which a great affect for antique maps. These can then be either hung on the walls, or rolled up and placed around the party/event. If you are particularly clever, you can incorporate one or more of these in a treasure hunt (see TREASURE HUNT section.)

    Step
7Make invitations from post cards. Either that, or make your invitations to LOOK like exotic postcards – utilizing exotic photos found on the Internet and printed out. You could also check out your local library…most have a table of free publications (usually with lots of National Geographic magazines). Peruse them for topics and photos on ancient Egypt.

    Step
8This is great for any age. Use all the techniques we grew up with building Christmas gingerbread houses to create an ancient Egyptian temple! Both kids and adults will have fun constructing and decorating their mysterious structures. One thing this has over the Christmas homes is that it can actually look BETTER if the gingerbread pieces are irregular or even broken. These make great centerpieces, as running activities during the party or even as a contest among small groups of guests. If you turn this into a contest, make sure that every team is given the same amount of gingerbread pieces…

    Sweeeet! What a lucky dude!

    Here's what I'd recommend for bolts: http://www.eastonarchery.com/products/product/54

Easton doesn't sell these direct from online, but you can order them through various online sources or from a local shop. If you order online you'll also have to order inserts, points, and nocks, and your man will have to install them. If you buy from a local shop they'll assemble for you.

With the targets you got, pls make sure they're good enough to stop a crossbow bolt. Many generic arrow bags aren't up to the task of stopping crossbow bolts and he could end up losing some pricey bolts.

    You're awesome!
